Dear First Grade Families,
There are five days this week of school. We get out at 3:00 pm everyday except Wednesday when we get out at 1 pm. We still need more copy paper and Kleenex boxes. The school needs volunteers to monitor the cafeteria and playground from 11:00 am to 1:00pm. Please call the school if you can help. If the school doesn’t have enough volunteers, teachers will need to supervise students during this time instead of having a full 30-minute lunch break. Thank you to all who volunteer.
This week we have ten spelling words. Please practice their words with them as they do their spelling homework. Daily reading is important. Sign the reading log after they read 20 minutes each day. They need to show the reading log to their SFA Teacher daily. Keep up with completing math sheets also.
We are learning about dividing words into syllables in Language Arts. In Science we are learning about planting wheat in a straw and recording its growth. We will record the growth of our grass, and wheat in our journals. In Social Studies we are learning about Christopher Columbus the explorer. We will also learn about Ponce de Leon and other explorers from Spain and how they interacted with the Natives. In Math we will be practicing counting from 0-100 by 2’s and 5’s. They need to be able to fill in the missing number when counting by 2’s or 5’s starting at any number between 0-100.

Attached is a form to put down your first, second, and third choice for a day and time for your child’s conference. I will send a letter to confirm your time when the schedule is made up. If you don’t return your conference choice then I will give you one from what is left. I want to have the schedule filled in by Thursday, October 7th and pass it out to parents that day. Thank you Tristan’s mom for making conference copies.
I handed out the Great American Spell Check recently. Look in you child’s folder if you don’t know where it is. Read the parent letter, ask family to give money for words kids spell correctly, and have your child practice the words. The Sponsor Sheet is due October 11th. The test is October 15th. Dear First Grade Families,
This week is a full week. We will be at school everyday. Please remind your children to follow all classroom and school rules. We need quiet and cooperation so that each child can learn what they need. All students need to attend school everyday unless they are sick or there is a family emergency. I am really enjoying the children and teaching them.
Please help your child practice their words with daily spelling homework. Many students are still not doing their ABC Order and Practice Spelling Test. Students are failing their spelling test. A 0 or 1 is failing. They should be getting 7 or more words correct.
Daily reading is important. Sign the reading log after they read 20 minutes each day. They need to show the reading log to me daily. Keep up with completing math sheets also.
This week we are practicing letter sounds as well as working on comprehension as we listen to Six Dinner Sid in SFA Reading. We are learning about endings of words that the silent e must be dropped before adding the ending. In Science we are learning about clay when added to water. Some students still need help with counting and drawing numbers with only tens and ones. I will continue to assist them during intervention time.
