Dear First Grade Parents,
The Spaghetti Dinner and Love of Reading Night on last Thursday was fun! Thank you Naomi, Sasha, Lalyiah, Gabriel Romero, Rachel, and Emily for coming and reading to you families.
We only have school Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week! We have Rodeo Vacation Thursday, and Friday. We return to school on Monday, March 1st, 2010. Have a great few days off.
Registration packets for next school year were sent home on the 15th. Please fill them out now. Many of you completed them and returned them and I thank you for that. If you did not please return them now to save your spot for next school year. If you are do not plan to return for next school year please return the folder with a note telling us that. If you are unsure please complete the forms anyways and then you can withdraw later or you may not get a spot. Open enrollment for new students begins soon.
This week we will continue SFA Reading oa and ur. We will do the read aloud Three Billy Goats Gruff. We will publish our animal report. In Math, students review counting quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. We will study our phonograms and spelling words in Spelling. In Social Studies, We will learn about the Rodeos. We will learn about Human Development.
Homework this week will be a Math worksheet each night, and reading for 20 minutes. An adult needs to sign the student’s reading log each day to show that they read each day after school. It needs to be turned in Friday. There will be no spelling homework of Spelling five times each word on Monday, each word in a sentence on Tuesday, spelling words in ABC order on Wednesday, and no practice test on Thursday. No Spelling test is on Friday.
Spelling Words: None Bonus Words: None
We have had many students absent. If your child is absent for more than one day please get their work from me. I don’t want them to get far behind and bring their grades down. We need to keep them learning and their work completed.
Students began receiving a daily reward for attending school and being on time. They also receive a daily reward for doing their homework: math, and spelling are required. We want your children to have the best opportunity to learn. They can only learn if they attend school. Thank you for helping me teach your children affectively.
All children are expected to be in attendance each day unless they are ill or a family emergency arises. If you know that your child is going to be absent/tardy, please call the office at 807-9668. If your child is absent for a total of 18 days, consecutive or nonconsecutive, excused or unexcused it is seen as truant and excessive. AAL reports all students with excessive absences to the Pima County Attorney’s truancy office. For more information about truancy, visit http://www.pcao.pima.gov/actnow.htm
Thank you,Mrs. Brown
