Week of November 8th

November 8th, 2010
Dear First Grade Families,

There are three days this week of school. We get out at 3:00 pm everyday except Wednesday when we get out at 1 pm. There is no school Thursday or Friday. Thursday is Veterans Day and Friday is a teacher planning day. Thank you for the paper from Alejandro and Michael. Also thank you Tristan for the snacks. I still need more paper, 20 black dry erase markers and Kleenex tissue boxes.

This week we have ten spelling words. Please practice their words with them as they do their spelling homework. Daily reading is important. Sign the reading log after they read 20 minutes each day. They need to show the reading log to their SFA Teacher daily. Keep up with completing math sheets also.

We are learning about recognizing syllables in words and dividing words into syllables in Language Arts. In Science we are learning about planting grass and wheat and recording their growth. We will record the growth of our Brassica flowers, grass, and wheat in our journals. In Social Studies we are learning about Christopher Columbus the explorer. In Math we will be practicing counting from 0-100 by 1’s, 10’s and counting from 100-0 also by 1’s and 10’s
