Dear First Grade Families,

This week is a short week because Friday is a teacher training day. We will have class as usual with one day less of each subject. Please remember to talk to your kids about bullying. Bullying is teasing, hitting, kicking, taking other’s things, etc. It will not be tolerated. Encourage your child to tell an adult if they are being bullied. We can’t help them if we don’t know it is happening. Let’s all work together to keep all children happy and safe at school.

Please help your child practice their words with daily spelling homework. Daily reading is important. Sign the reading log after they read 20 minutes each day. Keep up with completing math sheets also.

Dear First Grade Families,

This week is a full week. We will be at school everyday. Please remind your children to follow all classroom and school rules. We need quiet and cooperation so that each child can learn what they need. All students need to attend school everyday unless they are sick or there is a family emergency. I am really enjoying the children and teaching them.

Please help your child practice their words with daily spelling homework. Many students are still not doing their ABC Order and Practice Spelling Test. Students are failing their spelling test. A 0 or 1 is failing. They should be getting 7 or more words correct.
Daily reading is important. Sign the reading log after they read 20 minutes each day. They need to show the reading log to me daily. Keep up with completing math sheets also.

This week we are practicing letter sounds as well as working on comprehension as we listen to Six Dinner Sid in SFA Reading. We are learning about endings of words that the silent e must be dropped before adding the ending. In Science we are learning about clay when added to water. In Social Studies we are learning about maps and physical features such as lakes, rivers, mountains and deserts. In math we move onto counting numbers with hundreds, tens, and ones. Some students still need help with counting and drawing numbers with only tens and ones. I will continue to assist them during intervention time.
