Dear First Grade Families,
There are five days this week of school. We get out at 3:00 pm everyday except Wednesday when we get out at 1 pm. The field trip to the Desert Museum is Friday. We will need chaperones/volunteers to arrive the school at 9:00 am. We will board buses at 9:15 am and leave shortly afterwards. If you are not free lunch and said you would bring a lunch for your child, please do not forget their lunch. All children should put on sunscreen, wear a hat, and bring a bottle of water. If they own a school t-shirt, please have them wear it.

I stapled a note of grades from last week and papers to for you to see what they did. I only copied pages of their tests with questions they got wrong. If you have any questions on how to help them with what they got wrong please call or email me.
This week we have ten spelling words. Please practice their words with them as they do their spelling homework. Daily reading is important. Sign the reading log after they read 20 minutes each day. They need to show the reading log to me daily. Keep up with completing math sheets also.

Dear First Grade Families,

There are only four days this week of school. Friday is grading day for the first quarter. Conferences will be October 13th, 14th, and 15th. The students will get out early. Attached is a form to put down your first, second, and third choice for a day and time for your child’s conference. I will send a letter to confirm your time when the schedule is made up. If you don’t return your conference choice then I will give you one from what is left. I want to have the schedule filled in by Thursday, October 7th and pass it out to parents that day. Thank you Tristan’s mom for making conference copies.

I handed out the Great American Spell Check recently. Look in you child’s folder if you don’t know where it is. Read the parent letter, ask family to give money for words kids spell correctly, and have your child practice the words. The Sponsor Sheet is due October 11th. The test is October 15th. After that you give the money into the school. The money from Gold Cards and the Great American Spell Check will be used to go to The Children’s Museum and Reid Park Zoo. Please help us learn outside the classroom. Thank you Tristan, Damariz, Jose, and any others that sold Gold Cards. I know we have sold at least 30. Half the money will go towards our field trips.

Please help your child practice their words with daily spelling homework. Students are doing better on their spelling test and phonogram test. We a re doing lots of reviewing of previous words and phonograms in class. They should be getting 7 or more words correct. Eight or more correct is a 3. Daily reading is important. I will be assessing my classes reading using the SFA Assessment so that we can reorganize groups for Monday, October 11th.We are learning about contractions with not and will in Language Arts.
